In these few chapter we really begin to see who the main character, Christopher, really is. We learn that he reads a lot of science and math books but also likes mysteries because they are like a math problem which the reader can solve. We also learn that this novel is not a comedy but a mystery. This in itself is comical, and throughout these chapters, Christopher repeatedly reminds the reader that it is a mystery and not a comedic novel. Though the mystery in the story is obvious, the reader cannot help but laugh at the style of writing and the events that occur. We also truly begin to see Christopher's though-process. Through his style of writing, Christopher likes to give the details of his thoughts. This will be very comical to read but possibly at times, too much information. Besides the basic plot of Christopher hitting a policeman and getting taken to jail, we learn he is obviously bad with others as he should not have hit the cop. We also learn that certain jokes, like the one his father has told which has three answers, is too much for Christopher. At the end of chapter 17 we see Christopher's love for science with his description of the Big Bang and the stars and his in-depth knowledge of science and math and the world around him, but his lack of understanding and interacting with others.
