The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

Over the next week, I will be reading a novel by Mark Haddon titled "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. The book is a national bestseller, and has been raved about in many book clubs and papers such as the New York Times. The back gives a brief summary stating: " Christohpher John Francis Boone knows all the countries of the world and their capitals and every prime number up to 7,057. He relates well to animals but has no understanding of human emotions. He cannot stand to be touched. And he detests the color yellow. This improbable story of Christopher's quest to investigate the suspicious death of a neighborhood dog makes for one of the most captivating, unusual, and widely heralded novels in recent years." From the summary, it seems like a Rain Man type story. The main character seems extremely intelligent and good with numbers yet very awkward and unaware socially. In other words, the main character probably has a very high IQ, but a low EQ. Starting next week I will begin to read this short novel. I will start monday (3/16) and finish friday (3/20). I will do 2 posts each day and since the book is roughly 200 pages, I will read 40 pages. If you didn't understand that, this book may not be for you because after flipping through, it seems that the main character uses a lot of math in his though processes. I don't think that sounds too daunting of a task. You can look for my posts on this blog every day.
